Nicotinamide is a vitamin B form. It can be also called Vitamin B3 or Niacinamide. It is a significant niacin derivative, mainly occurring in many organisms. Nicotinamide can produce coenzyme Ⅰ and Ⅱ when it reacts with ribose, adenine and phosphoric acid. Also it boosts the synthesis of DNA, fats and proteins and improves the energy metabolism of cells. So it can greatly prevent melanin deposition, and reduce discoloration. It has an effective whitening function. Nowadays, as a natural cosmetics ingredient, it is widely applied in skin and hair care products.

PREPARATION METHOD

Nicotinamide is obtained by synthesis. There are 2 methods: biosynthesis and chemical. Plamed produces Nicotinamide by the biological method, because of its non-pollution, low consumption and suitability for mass production. All of these advantages can benefit customers a lot.

BENEFITS

• Prevent melanin from depositing into keratinocytes
Skin will darken when melanin is delivered to keratinocytes. But Nicotinamide can act on generated melanin, and then efficiently prevent the transfer of 35% to 40% of melanin from melanocytes to horny cells. Hence, it can lessen excessive pigmentation. Clinical tests have suggested that Nicotinamide face cream can obviously reduce the brown spots 'number and area.

• Accelerate the metabolism of melanocytes
Nicotinamide is directly absorbed by cells owing to its small molecules. Nicotinamide can penetrate the inner layer of the skin within 2 hours. Using Nicotinamide to the skin can form energy molecules in human body quickly. It can penetrate the stratum corneum to the connective tissue and fibers between the dermis; and then it directly gets in the bottom of the cell to facilitate the metabolism of cells.

• Promote synthesis of cortical proteins on skin
Nicotinamide synthesizes protein on the surface of skin. And it amends skin texture, and moisturizes skin. In 1990, European Patent 0-396-422 shows that it can whiten skin and exert sun block effect to add Nicotinamide, 0.1% to 5% silicone compound and UVA, UVB sunscreen into the cream formulation.

APPLICATION AND REFERENCE AMOUNT

Nicotinamide is applied in skin-care products, such as whitening cream, spot removing essence, moisturizing lotion, etc. Also it can be added into shampoo, hair conditioner to stop hair loss and relieve itch. Usually it can be mingled with glycerol, retinol to make cosmetics.

[Attention]

• When pH value of Nicotinamide is less than 5, it will be disintegrated to niacin. Niacin is harmful for skin. Therefore, Nicotinamide's pH value should be controlled in range of 5~7.

• Nicotinamide can hardly absorbed by skin when above 5% concentration's. Below 5% dosage will be beneficial to skin. Thus the dosage of Nicotinamide should be controlled.

• Avoid to use Niacinamide with salicylic acid, alpha hydroxy acid and other acids. Because under acidic conditions, Niacinamide will be decomposed into niacin, causing irritation.
